Sponsored or Independent visas for Temporary or Permanent Residence in Australia

Australia is a land of opportunity for people with relevant skills. There are a range of options and pathways for individuals interested in skilled migration to Australia. Whether on temporary or permanent basis, depending on individual skills and circumstances, with varying eligibility criteria.

Employer Nomination Scheme (ENS) visas, or subclass 186 visas, are permanent residency visas for skilled workers. People with relevant skills and experience, who are already living and working in Australia as temporary residents or those living outside Australia can apply. To be eligible for this visa, a skilled individual must be nominated by an Australian employer.

Temporary Skill Shortage Visa (TSS Visa) Subclass 482: The TSS visa is a temporary visa which allows eligible businesses and employers to sponsor employees, in the nominated position. The TSS visa has a short-term stream and a medium-term stream.  Applicants with occupations on the Short-Term Skilled Occupations List (STSOL) are eligible for visas of up to two years (renewable once, for a further two years), whilst those on the Medium and Long-Term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL) can apply for up to four years, with eligibility for permanent residency after three years.

Skilled Employer Sponsored Regional (Provisional) visa Subclass 494: This visa enables regional employers to address identified labour shortages within their region by sponsoring skilled workers where employers can’t source an appropriately skilled Australian worker. The subclass 494 visa is a provisional residency visa available to skilled workers. It is available both to skilled workers who are already living and working in Australia as temporary residents, and to skilled workers living outside Australia. To be eligible for this visa, a worker must be skilled in an occupation on the Regional Occupation List and be nominated by an employer in a designated regional area.

Skilled Independent Visa Subclass 189: This visa is for invited workers and New Zealand citizens with skills we need, to live and work permanently anywhere in Australia. The 189 Visa is a permanent visa that allows skilled workers to live in Australia. This visa provides the holder with Australian permanent residency with no conditions. The holder can live and work wherever they like in Australia. Although the visa is granted based on the holder being skilled in a specific occupation, once granted, the visa doesn’t require you to seek or maintain employment in this occupation. This visa is available to applicants who are skilled in an occupation on the Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL).

Skilled Nominated Visa Subclass 190: The 190 Visa is a permanent visa that allows skilled workers to live in Australia, based on a nomination by an Australian state or territory. This visa provides the holder with Australian permanent residency with no conditions. The holder can live and work indefinitely in their chosen state. Although the visa is granted based on the holder being skilled in a specific occupation, once granted, the visa doesn’t require you to seek or maintain employment in this occupation.

Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) visa Subclass 491: The subclass 491 visa is a provisional residency visa available to skilled workers who are willing to live and work in a designated regional area.
